The 78,309-ton cruise ship, delivered by Lloyd Werft shipyard on August 31, 2001, is set to begin a new chapter in 2027 after transferring to Cordelia Cruises.

Since entering service in September 2001, Norwegian Sun has travelled across some of the world’s most recognised cruise regions, carrying thousands of passengers on journeys across North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and other international destinations.

The vessel started its cruise career with voyages through Canada and New England, before expanding its operations to warmer waters and joining Norwegian Cruise Line’s Caribbean programme. Over the years, the ship has become known for its ability to operate in multiple regions and adapt to different seasonal cruise markets.

After arriving in North America, the vessel will reposition to PortMiami, where it will begin a series of Caribbean and Central America cruises for the 2026–27 season.

The upcoming voyages will include 11- and 12-night itineraries, featuring partial crossings of the Panama Canal and visits to popular destinations including Cartagena de Indias and Puerto Limón.

These cruises will combine tropical landscapes, cultural attractions and important maritime experiences, continuing the ship’s tradition of offering travellers access to globally recognised destinations.

Mediterranean Adventures Continue Before The Ship Changes Course

Before joining its new fleet, Norwegian Sun will return to European waters in May 2027 for Mediterranean sailings.

The vessel will operate seven-night cruises from Italian ports, exploring destinations across both the Eastern and Western Mediterranean. The planned routes will include stops in areas such as Sicily, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro and Slovenia.

The Mediterranean season will serve as one of the final stages of Norwegian Sun’s journey under Norwegian Cruise Line before the ship enters a new operational era.

Norwegian Sun To Transform Into Cordelia Sun In Indian Cruise Market

The next major milestone in the ship’s history will come in September 2027, when Norwegian Sun transfers to Cordelia Cruises.

After the ownership change, the vessel will receive a new identity as Cordelia Sun and become part of the Indian cruise company’s growing fleet. The ship will join another former Norwegian Cruise Line vessel already operating under the Cordelia Cruises brand.

The introduction of Cordelia Sun is expected to expand cruise options for Indian travellers by adding a vessel with extensive international experience and a proven operational background.

The ship is planned to begin its new service with shorter cruises from Mumbai, bringing more domestic cruise opportunities to the Indian market.
