For propelling the tourism segment, Bhutan has aimed reducing the ‘expensive’ airfares to lessen the value for tourists coming to the country.

Namgay Tshering, the Finance Minister of Bhutan said that this measure would bring in increase of tourists to the country and upsurge the amount of visitors that come to the country, as the ‘expensive’ ticket price regularly disheartens tourists from coming to Bhutan.

Furthermore, the Bhutanese government has initiated a lot of inducements, such as dropping the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) from USD200 to USD100 for each person every night.

Other plans comprise allowing economical hotels to provide lodgings for tourists and forming other long-
stay incentive packages. The administration is at present making plans for inspiring tourists by thinking
about reducing prices.

Tshering said that the Bhutanese government is joining hands with Drukair Corporation and Bhutan Airlines to lessen the charges for flights for tourists. This is inclusive of the government’s inducement, bearing in mind complain of tourists regarding the costly airfare.

Nevertheless, other policymakers consider that the SDF policy’s repeated alterations are not the perfect plan for progressing the tourist segment.
