BLR Airport wins ‘Best Airport of the Year’ at Wings India Awards 2024, excelling in passenger experience, technology, and sustainability.

The Bengaluru Kempegowda International Airport (BLR Airport) recently received accolades as the ‘Airport of the Year’ at the Wings India Awards 2024. This prestigious event, which took place in Hyderabad on January 18, also saw BLR Airport being awarded the ‘>25 MPPA Traffic Award’ in the Airports category.

This esteemed recognition highlights the airport’s commitment to providing top-notch operational efficiency, a smooth and enjoyable experience for passengers, a strong focus on environmental conservation, and the implementation of advanced technology. Over the past year, BLR Airport has made remarkable strides in increasing its capacity to accommodate more passengers. Steps like adding more entry gates and check-in counters, along with improved display boards, have been instrumental in ensuring a hassle-free experience for travelers. The airport’s Terminal 2 (T2), a sprawling 255,661 square meter facility designed to handle an annual capacity of 25 million passengers, now handles international flights, previously operated from Terminal 1 (T1). Additionally, the expansion of immigration and emigration counters has significantly reduced wait times, further enhancing the travel experience.

BLR Airport’s Commitment to Environmental Responsibility:

BLR Airport is a leader in environmental stewardship, as evidenced by its attainment of the Level 4+ Transition status within the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program. The airport actively pursues initiatives to reduce its environmental impact, such as achieving a net energy-neutral status, prohibiting single-use plastics at food and beverage outlets, and engaging in extensive landscaping and afforestation efforts. BLR Airport also stands out for being water-positive, producing more water than it consumes, and it underscores its commitment to sustainability by using 100% renewable energy throughout the campus.

T2’s Pledge to Green Design:

T2 is a shining example of BLR Airport’s dedication to sustainable architecture. Awarded the Platinum LEED rating by USGBC and the IGBC Green New Building Platinum certification, T2 is the largest terminal globally to hold these prestigious accolades. The terminal’s design beautifully integrates state-of-the-art technology with India’s rich cultural heritage, featuring over 60 artworks that represent the ‘Naurasas’ or nine emotions. The ‘Terminal in a Garden’ concept offers passengers a serene green oasis within the busy airport setting.

Innovative Technology Enhancing Passenger Experience:

BLR Airport places a strong emphasis on innovation and technology to facilitate a seamless and efficient travel experience. Advanced systems like the Digi Yatra facial recognition for touch-free boarding, the BLR Pulse app for real-time updates, and self-service baggage drop systems prioritize passenger comfort. The Automated Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) enhances the efficiency of baggage screening. In October 2023, BLR Airport was recognized as the world’s most punctual airport for three consecutive months, showcasing its commitment to timely operations and service excellence.

This award as India’s Best Airport reflects BLR Airport’s dedication to customer satisfaction and its continuous expansion in capacity. As it scales new heights, BLR Airport aspires to become the premier gateway to South and Central India.
