The Udupi district administration has decided to re-permit admission of tourists – local and foreign – to Blue Flag-certified Padubidri beach from December 17.
This beach along with Kasarkod in Uttara Kannada district had received the internationally coveted certification on October 11. Arvind Nautiyal, the national project director, Society for Integrated Coastal Management, made this announcement on behalf of an international jury from FEE, Denmark.
All works associated with the blue flag certification have been completed with the assistance of the Union Ministry of Environment and Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM), said the District Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha.
The Padubidri beach received blue flag international recognition along with seven other beaches in India.
Jagadeesha, also the president of the district tourism committee, said that Padubidri end point beach has been developed as a well-maintained beach and tourists can now take pleasure in their trip and activities along the seashore.
Jagadeesha said that the formal blue flag hoisting ceremony at the beach by SICOM will be held later in a splendid manner.
