Bristol Airport has been actively informing passengers about alternative travel options following the sudden collapse of Channel Islands-based airline Blue Islands. The carrier, which had been operating for two decades, ceased all operations on the evening of Friday, November 14. As a result, numerous passengers have found themselves stranded, with some facing disruptions to their travel plans.

In an effort to assist those affected, Scottish airline Logan Air and Channel Islands carrier Aurigny are stepping in to provide support. From Monday, November 17, Logan Air began offering “rescue fares” for customers whose flights were canceled. These special fares are available for travel between Jersey, Guernsey, Exeter, Bristol, and Southampton, ensuring that stranded passengers can find alternative routes back home or to their desired destinations.

Blue Islands, which employed around 100 staff members, primarily operated routes between Jersey, Guernsey, and various airports across the British Isles. Their fleet of five ATR-72 aircraft serviced key destinations including Bristol, Exeter, Southampton, and Guernsey, connecting the Channel Islands with the UK mainland. The airline had been a significant player in regional air travel for many years, providing vital links to several areas that had few other flight options. The sudden grounding of the airline has led to a significant disruption in travel plans for many.

The airline’s collapse has had an immediate impact on services, especially for travelers heading to and from Bristol. Blue Islands had been scheduled to operate regular flights between Bristol and Jersey, including multiple flights each week. However, the airline canceled all of its flights between Bristol and Jersey on Sunday, November 16. Passengers who had booked flights on that date were directed to follow the guidance issued by the UK Civil Aviation Authority for further instructions on rebooking or refund options.

To assist with the ongoing disruption, both Logan Air and Aurigny have made swift efforts to help Blue Islands passengers. Logan Air’s rescue fares have been introduced for travel between Jersey and Guernsey, Exeter, Bristol, and Southampton. Additionally, Aurigny, another Channel Islands-based airline, has stepped up to offer additional flights on the Guernsey-Southampton and Guernsey-Jersey routes. These extra flights will operate from Monday, November 17, through Wednesday, November 19, to accommodate those in need of rebooking.

Before the airline’s closure, Blue Islands had extensive plans for future services, including regular routes between Bristol and Jersey through to October 2026. The airline was planning to operate up to two flights daily on some routes, with Bristol Airport’s website showing a year-round service offering up to 10 flights weekly to both Jersey and Guernsey. The unexpected collapse has led to a sudden void in regional connectivity, particularly for those relying on these routes for both business and leisure travel.

The financial collapse of Blue Islands follows the news that the Jersey government had provided the airline with a substantial loan of £8.5 million to support its operations. However, a report from August 2025 revealed that £7 million of that loan had still remained unpaid, contributing to the airline’s eventual downfall. While the collapse has sent ripples across the local tourism and transport sectors, the Jersey government has emphasized the importance of maintaining robust air connectivity for the island’s residents and visitors. In light of the situation, contingency plans have already been set in motion to restore vital air services as quickly as possible.

As Blue Islands was a key provider of air travel for the Channel Islands, its unexpected closure has raised concerns over the long-term impact on both the local economy and tourism industry. The government has reassured citizens that work is already underway to find suitable replacements for the lost routes and to minimize the disruption to both residents and visitors alike.

Passengers affected by the cancellation of Blue Islands flights are encouraged to stay informed via the official websites of Logan Air and Aurigny, which are offering details on their rescue fare options and additional services. Bristol Airport also continues to provide updates on the situation, with advice and support available for passengers impacted by the collapse.

In the wake of the airline’s sudden closure, it is clear that both customers and the airport must quickly adapt to these changes. Logan Air and Aurigny’s prompt actions will help ease the disruption for many passengers, but the full impact of Blue Islands’ closure on regional travel and connectivity is yet to be fully realized. Passengers are advised to remain in close contact with the airlines involved to ensure they are aware of any further updates or adjustments to their travel plans.
