During a captivating four-day excursion through the villages of Yichun City in Jiangxi Province, East China, Yasiru Ranaraja, Director of the Belt & Road Initiative Sri Lanka (BRISL), immersed himself in a distinctive adventure, delving into the seamless connection between humanity and nature.

The tour, strategically timed during the COP28, the largest climate conference to date, placed a special emphasis on nature. Yasiru embarked on a boat journey to explore the scenic Tianzhu Mountain spot in Tonggu County, where the breathtaking natural surroundings left him awestruck. Following the boat trip, he indulged in a soak in the county’s hot spring, boasting a constant water temperature of around 50 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

Expressing his admiration for the locals, Yasiru remarked, “I envy you living in such a beautiful place.”

Beyond the realm of natural preservation, Yasiru deepened his comprehension of sustainable development by witnessing how local communities harness natural resources. His journey to Fengxin County, renowned as the “hometown of kiwi fruits” in China, showcased the area’s exceptional kiwi fruit production due to its ideal climate and organic cultivation practices.

Yasiru also found himself captivated by the provincial intangible cultural heritage. From the root sculpture art in Yifeng County, tracing back to the Wei and Jin dynasties (220-420), to the black porcelain in Jing Kiln, Jing’an County, he felt transported to ancient times, immersing himself in China’s rich history and culture spanning thousands of years.

During his brief stay in Yichun, Yasiru forged strong connections with the local villagers in Gangbei Village and Pingtian Village. Welcomed warmly with tea and traditional dances, he praised the impressive local specialties and customs, acknowledging the hospitality of the villagers.

Eager to share the beauty of Yichun with a broader audience, Yasiru stated, “I am ready to introduce Yichun’s scenery, culture, and customs to a wider audience.” Following the tour, he published a comprehensive analysis titled “Exploring Sustainable Pathways: BRISL’s Journey through Yichun City’s Villages” on the BRISL website, emphasizing that Yichun’s villages serve as a guiding light for global sustainable development practices.
