Bulgaria, with its captivating blend of allure, cultural richness, historical depth, seamless transportation links, and awe-inspiring natural landscapes, is curating an unparalleled experience for every traveler. As the ECTAA Preferred Destination for 2024, the Ministry of Tourism aims to showcase the country’s extensive offerings to approximately 80,000 European travel professionals, urging them to consider Bulgaria as the top choice for their clientele.

Over the upcoming months, ECTAA will actively support the promotion of travel and tourism outside of Bulgaria by facilitating market access for local destination management companies and other partners to European travel agents and tour operators. Collaborating closely with the Ministry of Tourism and ABTTA (Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents), ECTAA envisions positioning Bulgaria as one of the most exciting destinations in Europe.

As part of the Preferred Destination program, informative online roundtables tailored to the Ministry of Tourism’s promotional objectives are scheduled. These events will shed light on Bulgaria’s hidden treasures and distinctive features, providing travel agents and tour operators with invaluable insights to effectively market the destination to their clients.

A significant milestone in this collaboration is the ECTAA general meeting scheduled to take place in Sofia in October 2024. This prestigious gathering will bring together leaders, decision-makers, and industry experts from across Europe, offering an optimal platform to showcase Bulgaria and strategize for mutual growth.

Additionally, an increased presence on social media will bolster Bulgaria’s image as an attractive destination, especially for those seeking authentic, unspoiled nature. Despite the geographical distance, the focus is on promoting a sustainable journey.

The tourism industry is ushering in a new era, prioritizing sustainability with a focus on nature protection, respect for local communities, and human-centric considerations. This presents an opportunity for Bulgaria to reposition itself as a leading player in the European tourism landscape. Hence, ECTAA and the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria align on a shared mission of advocating for sustainable and responsible tourism while championing the exploration of new horizons.

Eric Drésin, the Secretary General of ECTAA, expressed satisfaction, stating, “We are pleased that ECTAA, in collaboration with ABTTA, its Bulgarian member organization, can assist Bulgaria in reaching out to travel agents and tour operators. We strongly believe that Bulgaria has the potential to become one of the most competitive countries in European tourism, offering holidaymakers a completely new experience. We are confident that the Preferred Destination program will result in stronger relations between Bulgaria’s incoming agents and our members.”
