Cancun Region is the commonplace for Half of Tourism Scams in Mexico

As per reports by Expedia Group, Cancun, the ever-famous Mexican Caribbean resort town has already got its ranking among top summer destination places for American tourists. Furthermore, every year, the lush tropical beauty of the nearby Riviera Maya keeps attracting even more travellers, owing to the incredible natural scenic beauty, warm climate throughout the year, along with the rich heritage of cultural places.

While it is a matter of great pride that both these highly valued tourist destinations are situated in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, it has also been revealed recently, that among the 450,000 instances of fraudulent activities on tourism that occurred in 2022, fifty percent occurrences took place here itself.

For Americans who were planning to have their next vacation on Cancun or its neighboring areas, this news may cause a huge shock. However, AMAV -the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies and Mexico’s Tourism Bureau are now advancing with planned steps to tackle such tourist frauds, and safeguard local businesses related to tourism, while also protecting international tourists.

Starting this week, a national campaign will be launched with the objective to instruct tourists about most common traps to fall victim to scams and malpractices, and how to avoid them. These traps involve ploy son buying fake travel packages, destination tour scams and many more.
