The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) is commemorating Marcia Erskine, a celebrated public relations expert from Trinidad, after her sudden passing in Jamaica, her place of residence.

Nicola Madden-Greig, CHTA’s president, lauded Erskine for her groundbreaking work in communications, emphasizing her dedication to clients in the travel, tourism, and international sectors through her esteemed PR agency in Kingston, Marcia Erskine & Associates.

Describing Erskine as an authentic representation of Caribbean spirit and excellence, Madden-Greig stated, “Marcia was a fun-filled Trini girl who made Jamaica her home,” highlighting her significant impact on both Jamaica and the broader Caribbean through her insightful guidance, exceptional talent, and ability to inspire warmth and positivity.

“Marcia was a friend to many and a trusted colleague and mentor. She was a remarkable person who generously shared her time and wisdom. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those in Jamaica and across the Caribbean, as we have lost an extraordinary woman whose spirit was truly emblematic of our region,” said Madden-Greig.

Erskine had deep ties with the tourism industry, with her firm serving as the chosen agency for major Jamaican tourism bodies, such as the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA). She played a crucial role in readying the JHTA for the CHTA Caribbean Travel Marketplace event, set to occur in Montego Bay this coming May.

Erskine, a graduate of the Caribbean Institute of Mass Communications at the University of the West Indies Mona campus, held past presidential roles in the Public Relations Society of Jamaica and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). She led the Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) at the United Way of Jamaica and offered her skills as a board member to both the United Way of Jamaica and the St. Patrick’s Foundation.

Her career began in journalism within Trinidad and Jamaica, and her commitment to Caribbean communications and tourism was recognized with the 2014 Marcella Martinez award for significant contributions to the marketing efforts of Caribbean destinations.

Furthermore, Erskine supported the Caribbean Media Exchange on Sustainable Tourism (CMEx), which started in Jamaica in 2001, showcasing her enduring support for the region’s tourism and communications sectors.
