Escape the cold East Coast winter and unwind in the tropical paradise of Turks and Caicos. The Strand, a newly opened resort in Providenciales, offers luxury, privacy, and breathtaking ocean views, making it the perfect destination for a family getaway.
During a cold East Coast winter, nothing beats the warmth of escaping to the tropical paradise of Turks and Caicos. This past winter, inspired by Travel + Leisure’s “Best Places to Go” list for 2025, my family and I decided to unwind on this idyllic island. We opted for The Strand, a newly opened resort tucked away on Cooper Jack Bay in Providenciales, offering standalone beach houses and exclusive luxury.

The resort’s design is a striking mix of modern architecture and nature, built with sun-washed coral-stone walls and floors that perfectly complement the island’s serene blue waters. The Strand, which welcomed guests in late 2024, is set to be fully complete by 2027. Its chic and angular sandcastle-inspired structure is not only a visual delight but also creates a seamless transition from snow-covered streets to island bliss.
From the moment we entered the resort’s vibrant lobby, adorned with a stunning mural by local artist Bradley Theodore, we were immersed in a world of color and creativity. The resort’s boutique shop offered a stunning array of sundresses and handmade jewelry, while the DelMar restaurant continued the theme with colorful dishes, including a margarita topped with scotch bonnet peppers and local lobster garnished with green tobiko.
Our days at The Strand were an absolute escape, whether lounging by our private pool or enjoying the quiet solitude of the resort’s secluded beach. Unlike other resorts on the island, The Strand enjoys the rare privilege of having a private stretch of sand to itself. The resort’s on-site DelMar restaurant offered an exquisite blend of casual and refined dining experiences. From leisurely meals to room service, which was just as elegantly prepared, every dining experience was a treat. The suite kitchens were stocked with everything we needed, including a wine fridge, dinnerware, and even a full-size crib and diaper pail waiting for us upon arrival.
Accommodations range from cozy one-bedroom suites with balconies to expansive six-bedroom residences with direct beach access. Every room at The Strand is designed to showcase stunning ocean views—no partial views here, only the magnificent horizon. We stayed in a ground-floor suite with our own private plunge pool and a covered terrace. The suite featured a fully equipped kitchen, a sitting area, and an inviting dining table, creating a comfortable indoor-outdoor living space. In the evenings, the live music from the bar below made it feel like we were out on the town, even as we stayed in to put our baby to bed. Second-floor suites offer oceanfront balconies, with some boasting rooftop terraces equipped with outdoor kitchens and lounging areas.

The Strand’s five-bedroom residences offer even more luxury, including customizable features like outdoor showers, infinity pools, and firepits. These homes are perfect for larger groups seeking the ultimate private getaway. Meanwhile, the DelMar restaurant remained the social heart of the resort, where guests mingled with locals over fresh seafood and live entertainment under the stars.
Beyond dining, the resort offers an array of activities, from fishing and snorkeling to tennis and pickleball, all bookable via a tablet from the comfort of your suite. Paddleboards and kayaks are also available for use on the beach, while the spa and kids’ club are still under construction. A large marina is planned, which will make The Strand the first resort on Providenciales to offer boaters the option to dock for meals at DelMar.
In terms of sustainability, The Strand stands out by sourcing 70% of its energy from solar power. The resort is also working with the Butterfly Pavilion to protect local pollinator habitats. The area surrounding the resort is part of a nature reserve, ensuring the natural beauty of the island will remain untouched.
For those seeking value, booking The Strand through the Leading Hotels of the World platform provides added benefits, including loyalty points, flexible cancellation, and daily breakfast included in the rate.
This haven in the heart of Providenciales offers the perfect blend of modern luxury, environmental responsibility, and unmatched tranquility—making it the ultimate destination for a relaxing island escape.
