BOLT, Carnival Cruise Line’s second rollercoaster at sea, is about to launch, and thrill seekers will be eager to experience it once they board the Carnival Celebration.

In advance of this week’s test runs, a new video clip from the shipyard demonstrates the roller coaster’s newly installed car on its track. After work at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland is complete, the cruise company will introduce the feature aboard its brand-new Carnival Celebration ship, which is scheduled to make its debut this fall. The sister ship of Celebration, Mardi Gras, is home to the original BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea.

Get set for an adrenaline rush on the mighty ocean

“The recognition this incredible attraction has received since its debut on our flagship last year highlights the tremendous work that went into making it a reality, but the most important thing about BOLT is, simply, it’s fun,” Carnival president Christine Duffy, said in a news release. “It embodies the great lengths we’ll go to for our guests’ good time, and I’m eager to see this next coaster in service when Carnival Celebration begins sailing.”

A two-person car on the all-electric coaster BOLT travels at up to 40 mph along an 800-foot track with numerous drops and curves that are 187 feet above the sea. The coaster received several honours last year, including Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” engineering award.

The new BOLT was initially tested at Maurer Rides in Germany and has undergone shoreside tests by technicians. Here the coaster underwent initial testing and preparations for certifications. Once concluded, the whole structure was broken down again and shipped to the Meyer Turku Shipyard in Finland. Carnival Celebration will offer year-round, seven-day Caribbean sailings from the updated Terminal F at PortMiami beginning with its debut voyage on November 21.
