CemAir, an independent airline, has announced its intention to launch a new route, offering flights between Johannesburg and Harare starting on May 21.
The service will operate four times a week and aims to enhance passenger experience with features including in-flight catering, a 21kg allowance for checked luggage, and a 7kg allowance for cabin baggage.
Amidst a resurgence in tourism, CemAir is broadening its operational horizons, already covering destinations such as Maun and Kasane in Botswana, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, and Maputo in Mozambique. Furthermore, the airline has revealed plans to extend its services to additional locations, including Luanda in Angola, Livingstone in Zambia, and Gaborone in Botswana.
This expansion strategy is aligned with the observed increase in tourist arrivals and air traffic to Zimbabwe, marking a significant recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This positive trend is supported by various airlines either initiating or reinstating flights to key Zimbabwean destinations like Victoria Falls and Harare, thereby enhancing the country’s appeal to tourists and businesses alike.
The aviation market on the Johannesburg to Harare route is already competitive, with carriers such as Airlink, FlySafair, South African Airways, Fastjet, and Air Zimbabwe providing direct services. CemAir’s entry into this market is expected to further stimulate competition, offering more choices to travelers.
By introducing flights to Harare, CemAir is not only extending its network but also playing a pivotal role in supporting the resurgence of Zimbabwe’s tourism industry. In the post-pandemic era, the airline’s expansion efforts and dedication to quality service are anticipated to have a beneficial impact on regional air travel and tourism, offering new opportunities for both tourists and businesses.
