For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, Easter Island, Chile, will be open for tourism.

August 1 is the date that the island destination will be officially open after two long years.

The island is located approximately 3,500 km west of the coast of Chile. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the southern Pacific Ocean region.

Also called Rapa Nui, Easter Island is most famous for the moais, the mysterious stone statues that stand tall like sentinels.

Tourism is the island’s main source of revenue, and the reopening of the island for travellers is welcomed.

At present, there is only one weekly flight to Easter Island but that will change from August onwards.
Up to three flights a week will be made available for tourists.

Easter Island is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
