China Airlines Expands Its North American Reach with the Launch of a Direct Taipei to Phoenix Non-Stop Service, Boosting Business and Tourism

In a bold move to enhance connectivity between Asia and the United States, China Airlines has officially launched its non-stop service between Taipei and Phoenix, solidifying its position as a leading carrier in the region. This direct route promises to transform travel by cutting down flight times by six hours, offering both business professionals and leisure travelers a more efficient and convenient option for cross-Pacific travel. By opening Phoenix as its seventh North American hub, China Airlines is not only expanding its reach in the American Southwest but is also tapping into a burgeoning market of tourists and business opportunities. This strategic expansion is set to boost tourism, foster economic ties, and provide an essential gateway for those looking to explore the vibrant U.S. Southwest.

China Airlines (CAL), based in Taiwan, has officially launched its new Taipei-Phoenix route. The inaugural non-stop flight, CI036, was personally led by Chairman Shing-Hwang (George) Kao, who flew from Taipei to Phoenix. The celebration at the boarding gate was attended by key figures, including Minister of Transportation and Communications Shih-Kai Chen and Raymond F. Greene, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan. Phoenix now becomes China Airlines’ seventh North American hub and the first in the American Southwest. The flight, which takes approximately 12 hours, cuts travel time by six hours compared to routes with layovers. This new direct connection offers travelers more flexibility and an additional convenient option for flying between Taiwan and the United States.

China Airlines has launched its state-of-the-art A350-900 aircraft on the Taipei-Phoenix route, with the inaugural flight on December 3 being fully booked. According to the airline’s Chairman, Shing-Hwang (George) Kao, Phoenix serves as a major gateway to the American Southwest and an essential hub for numerous connecting flights. Kao emphasized that this new service will attract more business travelers and tourists to the heart of America, positioning Phoenix as a top destination for all kinds of travelers.

The inaugural flight ceremony was graced by Yu-Min Lin, a baseball player sponsored by China Airlines, who currently plays for a team affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. To celebrate the new route, a special lottery was held, offering five fortunate passengers the opportunity to win a baseball signed by Lin, marking a memorable moment in the growing Taiwan-US travel partnership.

China Airlines has launched a direct service to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the largest international airport in Arizona, with flights available every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Passengers can benefit from interline agreements with Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, WestJet, and Sun Country Airlines, allowing them to connect to additional U.S. destinations such as Denver, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Kansas City, and Chicago.

Accompanying the meal, passengers enjoyed a choice of cocktails like the Passionfruit Lemon or Oolong Blackcurrant. Additionally, the popular American coffee brand Peet’s Coffee made its debut on China Airlines flights, serving its rich, aromatic brews to all passengers on the inaugural flight. Starting in 2026, Peet’s Coffee will be offered in Premium Business and Premium Economy classes across all routes.
