A major shift in long-haul travel has been marked by the introduction of a new ultra-long-distance service connecting Shanghai and Buenos Aires. This development has reduced travel time between the two regions, creating smoother movement for long-distance tourists seeking faster itineraries.

China Eastern Airlines has added a new passenger service linking Shanghai Pudong with Buenos Aires. The airline’s Boeing 777-39P, registered B-7882, has been scheduled to operate this extended journey. The flight begins in Shanghai and includes a planned refuelling and crew rotation stop in Auckland.

The route spans about 20,000 kilometres and has been designed to run for around 25 hours and 30 minutes. This makes it the longest scheduled commercial passenger service currently in operation.

This new flight replaces the previous record held by another long-distance service operated along the New York to Fuzhou route. Other lengthy journeys, such as Newark to Singapore and JFK to Singapore, continue to represent major long-haul travel patterns. Another major service, operated between Auckland and JFK, sits further down the ranking.
