Clearlake City Council to discuss Elem Colony travel center project

Wednesday, December 6, 2023

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Clearlake City Council is set to convene this week to discuss crucial matters, including an agreement with the Elem Indian Colony for the proposed travel center project and how to navigate significant cost increases in the Burns Valley Sports Complex Project. The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, December 7, at 6 p.m., will take place in the council chambers at Clearlake City Hall.

One key agenda item involves a memorandum of understanding with the Elem Indian Colony regarding the development of a travel center at 14825 and 14855 Lakeshore Drive, formerly the location of Mario’s Restaurant and Silk’s. The tribe, having successfully placed the site into trust, aims to collaborate with the city on this venture near Redbud Park.

Additionally, the council will address the challenges posed by substantial cost increases in the Burns Valley Sports Complex Project. Delays attributed to the Koi Nation’s lawsuit against the city have led to unforeseen expenses, prompting a discussion on possible courses of action.

Other items on the agenda include the appointment of the 2024 mayor and vice mayor, consideration of a summary vacation of a roadway and public utility easement, authorization of a five-year contract with Flock Safety for automated license plate reader cameras, and a public hearing to adopt the first amendment to the 2023-24 fee schedule, updating facility rental fees.

The meeting will also feature the recognition of December’s Adoptable Dogs, presentation of employee years of service awards, and certificates of appreciation to volunteers.

The consent agenda encompasses routine items like warrants and City Council minutes, awarding a contract to Pro-Ex Construction, approval of the annual calendar of meetings for 2024, and resolutions related to grants and holiday closures.

The council will enter closed session to discuss the Koi Nation’s lawsuits and a liability claim against the city by Andrew Kirkendall.
