Lufthansa and Munich Airport have added Connecting Passengers China, India, Japan, South Korea and Thailand to their Stopover Programme. This new addition allows passengers from these five markets to transform their connections into mini holidays as they now have the opportunity to visit Munich and the Bavarian region.
The programme enables eligible Lufthansa passengers transiting through Munich to extend their layover and explore local attractions before continuing to their final destination. Stopovers can be arranged for periods between 24 hours and seven days, giving travellers additional time to experience Bavarian culture, cuisine, sightseeing and shopping opportunities.
Initially launched in spring 2026 for passengers travelling from Singapore and the United States, the expanded programme now covers five additional Asian markets. The move aims to attract more international visitors who use Munich Airport as a connection point and encourage them to stay longer in the region.
Through the Stopover Programme, passengers can access various travel options, including accommodation, transport services, visitor attractions and retail experiences. Twelve tourism and business partners are currently involved, providing a range of services designed to make short stays in Munich more convenient and attractive.

Lufthansa Executive Board Member and Hub Manager Munich Heiko Reitz said the programme responds to growing passenger interest in exploring destinations beyond airport transfers. The initiative allows travellers to add Munich and Bavaria to their journeys while experiencing local culture, food and tourism highlights.
Munich Airport plays a key role as one of Lufthansa’s major international hubs and serves as a gateway for many visitors arriving in Bavaria. The programme is designed to turn connecting passengers into short-term visitors, supporting regional tourism and creating new opportunities for local businesses.
Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers highlighted the importance of cooperation between the airport and Lufthansa in promoting Bavaria as an international destination. The initiative connects global travel demand with the region’s tourism offerings while benefiting local hospitality providers, attractions and businesses.
Lufthansa and Munich Airport plan to further expand the Stopover Programme by introducing it to additional international markets and increasing the number of participating tourism partners.
