Marriott International has made one of their biggest Saudi Arabia expansion milestones this week by signing a contract with SEDCO Capital to develop Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Masar. With this deal Marriott will open its 100th hotel in Saudi Arabia signifying the expansion of the company’s footprint in the country. The hotel will be part of one of the Holy City of Makkah’s flagship projects, Masar, and will be completed in 2030.

Available to guests will be 1,100 hotel rooms and hotel suites containing Marriott’s modern design and comfort. The hotel will service vacationing and work travelers with a variety of dining options, large meeting and event space, including a ballroom, and a range of amenities such as a fitness center, kids club, and shops. The hotel will be conveniently located to many of Makkah’s key attractions, including Masjid al-Haram, the holiest site in Islam.

Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Masar will be strategically situated within the Masar destination, an expansive masterplan developed by Umm Al Qura for Development and Construction. This project is set to become a transformative urban development, providing a mix of hospitality, commercial, retail, and residential spaces, alongside cultural centers. The development is designed to enhance the infrastructure and connectivity in the Makkah area, directly supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to host 30 million pilgrims annually.

The Masar destination will feature a central pedestrian walkway leading directly to Masjid al-Haram, improving the overall experience for visitors to the site. As part of the project’s Transit-Oriented Development masterplan, Makkah’s urban transport infrastructure will also be modernized, contributing to better mobility for both residents and the growing number of pilgrims visiting the city each year.

Makkah’s Tourism Growth and Vision 2030

The signing of Courtyard by Marriott Makkah Masar reflects the rapid growth of Makkah’s tourism sector, particularly driven by religious and domestic visitation. The strategic developments like Masar aim to reshape the city’s urban and transit landscape, improving the pilgrimage experience for millions of visitors each year. The project supports the Kingdom’s ambitious goals set out in Vision 2030, which focuses on diversifying the economy and enhancing tourism infrastructure.

The demand for accommodations in Makkah continues to rise, supported by the Kingdom’s infrastructure investments and a steady influx of visitors. As the world’s largest spiritual hub for Muslims, Makkah remains a key destination for hospitality development in the region, offering immense opportunities for global hotel chains like Marriott to grow.
