The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism and Division of Festivals have made updates to the schedule for the 2023-2024 Crucian Christmas Festival.
Regrettably, the Calypso Monarch competition, initially planned for December 27 at the Festival Village, has been called off.
Joseph Boschulte, Commissioner of Tourism, expressed disappointment, stating, “It’s unfortunate that we can’t proceed with this year’s planned event, which is a crucial part of the Crucian Christmas Festival tradition.” He explained that despite efforts from the Division of Festivals leadership to collaborate with the St. Croix Calypsonian leadership, the group’s ultimatum left them no option but to make a change rather than risk having an empty night at the village.
December 27 will now be transformed into the inaugural Children’s Night, focusing on entertainment and activities tailored for the youngest members of the St. Croix community.
Shamari Haynes, Assistant Director of Festivals, added, “We’re thrilled to host this special night that celebrates our community’s youth. It offers them a chance to enjoy the village with dedicated elements tailored for their enjoyment.”
