Data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO) said that Czech Republic hosted 2.8 million visitors in the first quarter of this year. It is a steep increase compared to the meager 280,000 visitors witnessed last year.

This has given rise to hopefulness that the fundamental tourism industry is on its way to get back from the profound economic losses incurred in the past two years, said Klara Mala of Prague City Tourism. Klara said that people are prepared to travel again, and more and more tourists can now be seen in the streets of Prague. However, there is still a long way to go until a full recovery can be witnessed.

The amount of tourists traveling to Prague between January to March of this year was less than half compared to the same period in 2019, with foreign tourists remaining essentially negligible.

Germany, which remained the major foundation of tourists traveling to Prague in current times, witnessed only 234,290 people cross the border, compared to 407,558 people during the first three months of 2019. Other neighbors like Poland and Slovakia, also key sources of Prague-loving tourists, witnessed similar drop in tourist numbers.

Patrick Pechac of Lucy Tours is thankful that Prague is once again seeing tourism going back to normal. For the last two years, Pechac is sustaining from his savings and the meager earnings from the family business.
