During the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, Da Lat, the resort city located in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, Vietnam, witnessed a significant surge in tourist arrivals.

From February 8 to 12, which marks the first five days of Tet, the city greeted approximately 153,000 visitors, marking a 22.4% increase compared to the same period last year, according to reports from the municipal People’s Committee.

This increase underscores the city’s growing appeal as a holiday destination during one of the most celebrated times of the year in Vietnam.

The breakdown of these arrivals shows a healthy mix of both international and domestic tourists. Specifically, about 10,800 international visitors explored Da Lat during this period, representing an 8% increase from the previous year, while the number of Vietnamese tourists reached 142,200, up by 20.16%. This diverse influx of visitors reflects Da Lat’s universal appeal, offering a blend of cultural richness and natural beauty that attracts a broad spectrum of travelers.

The Tet holiday, extending through February 14, is anticipated to further boost visitor numbers to Da Lat. The municipal People’s Committee has projected that the occupancy rate for local accommodations will be quite high during the holiday. Specifically, three- to five-star hotels in Da Lat are expected to achieve an occupancy rate of between 90 to 95%, while other types of lodging facilities might see rates ranging from 75 to 85%. These projections indicate a bustling period for the city’s hospitality sector, accommodating the needs of tourists coming to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

Da Lat’s unique geographical and cultural attributes significantly contribute to its charm. Situated on the Lam Vien Plateau at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level, Da Lat spans 394 square kilometers and is home to about 260,000 residents from various ethnic groups. The city’s cool climate, scenic landscapes, and rich cultural heritage, including the UNESCO-recognized cultural space of the gongs, make it a compelling destination for those seeking both relaxation and cultural immersion. Furthermore, Da Lat’s association with prominent Vietnamese musicians and singers, coupled with its aspirations to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music, highlights its cultural significance and the diverse experiences it offers to visitors.

The noticeable growth in tourist arrivals during the Tet holiday is a testament to Da Lat’s enduring appeal and its potential for future growth as a premier tourist destination in Vietnam. As the city continues to develop its tourism infrastructure and cultural offerings, it is poised to attract even more visitors seeking to experience its unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.
