A application to grow dams tourism and make proper use of the area around for walks, etc. has been put forward by the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government, but the BMC and has put on hold on it. In the 2021-22 municipal budget, the Shiv Sena project was announced by the civic chief of that time, however, during pandemic, the said project did not take off.

The then Civic Chief, Praveen Pardeshi, in the budget speech for 2020-21, had unveiled plans for the development of tourism in around the dams that are the source of water to Mumbai, like Tansa, Modak Sagar, and Middle Vaitarna. The main idea was to grow a tourism model with Public Private Partnerships. To elevate, maintain, and control the BMC guest houses under PPP in compliance with few necessary conditions, hospitality partners were also invited. Under the project, numerous activities had been listed like nature trails, cycling tours, bird watching, camping, non-motorized water sports and star gazing.

A senior BMC official said that the project has not advanced in any way. There are countless assets for the safety of the dams and the adjoining environment. Around the dams, the area is ecologically sensitive and should be considered accordingly.
