David Schelp is set to rejoin TUI, taking on the role of the new Executive Board Member responsible for TUI’s tour operator and airline business (Market & Airlines) starting in January 2024. Born in Hong Kong, Schelp previously held management positions at TUI from 2002 to 2022, culminating in his role as CEO of the global growth segment TUI Musement. This segment, operating in over 100 countries, has significantly contributed to TUI’s international presence.

With a strong background in economics from the ESB Business School in Reutlingen and London, Schelp is well-versed in TUI and the tourism sector. Over the years, he has garnered extensive international experience and built a robust network.

During his earlier tenure with TUI, Schelp played a pivotal role in realigning and transforming various aspects of the business, introducing new growth areas for the Group. In 2009, as Managing Director, he strategically repositioned TUI’s destination management and tour guide business. Notably, he spearheaded the acquisition of the Milan-based digital and travel tech start-up, Musement, in 2018. Under his guidance, TUI Musement became a leading international provider of activities, experiences, and tours in holiday destinations globally.

In 2022, Schelp ventured into entrepreneurship outside TUI, becoming co-partner and CEO of the tourism business Turbopass. However, he will step down from Turbopass’s management board on January 1st, 2024.

David Burling, a member of the TUI Executive Board since 2015, has been overseeing the Group’s tour operators and airlines. His contributions, particularly during the integration of TUI AG with the British TUI Travel Plc, played a pivotal role in enhancing the Group’s position as the leading tour operator in European markets. Burling’s leadership has been instrumental in navigating challenges and expanding TUI’s reach.

Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TUI Group, expressed gratitude for Burling’s dedication and achievements, emphasizing his crucial role in steering TUI through the challenges posed by the pandemic. Zetsche also highlighted Burling’s success in stabilizing TUI’s tour operators and building a robust team for future transformations.

TUI Group CEO Sebastian Ebel extended his appreciation to David Burling for their years of collaboration, citing his thoughtful and forward-looking approach. Ebel welcomed David Schelp back to TUI, expressing confidence in his ability to drive growth and transformation within the tour operator and airline business.

Ebel outlined a clear direction for the future, focusing on more products, customers, growth, and profitability. While acknowledging the milestones achieved by 2023, he emphasized the ongoing commitment to further development. Together with the Group Executive Committee, Ebel looks forward to working with Schelp to achieve these objectives.
