Delta Air Lines, under the ticker DAL.N, has announced its plans to restart flight operations to Israel from June 7, positioning itself as the second major U.S. airline to re-establish routes to the country after the interruption caused by the attack from Hamas militants on southern Israel on October 7.

The airline disclosed that the resumption includes daily flights connecting New York-JFK with Tel Aviv, utilizing the Airbus A330-900neo aircraft. This decision follows a thorough security risk assessment conducted by Delta, underscoring its commitment to safety.

United Airlines, marked as UAL.O, had already resumed its flight services to Israel from Newark earlier in the month, setting a precedent for U.S. carriers reinstating flights to the region. However, United has indicated that it does not anticipate the resumption of services from other U.S. cities to Israel until at least the forthcoming fall.

Delta aims to offer approximately 2,000 seats each week on the New York to Israel route, affirming its dedication to closely monitor Israel’s situation in collaboration with both government and private-sector entities. This move comes after Delta, along with United and American Airlines (AAL.O), had ceased their service to Israel in October following the attack by Hamas.

The recommencement of flights to Tel Aviv by U.S. carriers marks a significant moment for travel to Israel, suggesting a revival of tourism which had been significantly impacted due to security concerns after the events of early October and the retaliatory measures taken by Israel in Gaza.

Prior to the October 7 incident, United operated four direct flights daily to Tel Aviv from several U.S. cities including Newark, San Francisco, Washington, and Chicago. The airline has communicated that the evaluation for resuming flights from these cities will commence in the fall.

Other international airlines such as Lufthansa (LHAG.DE), Swiss, Austrian, Aegean (AGNr.AT), and Air France (AIRF.PA) have also resumed their flight operations to Tel Aviv. American Airlines has announced a halt in flights to Israel through October 28, following a call from over 30 U.S. lawmakers last October urging airlines to expedite the resumption of flights to Israel to as soon as feasibly possible.
