DER Touristik has expanded its presence in the hotel business and strengthened its position in the land-based travel market with a significant investment. The hotel division, DER Touristik Hotel & Resorts GmbH, based in Cologne, has acquired a majority stake in DR Hospitality GmbH & Co. KG, headquartered in Rostock, northeastern Germany. Founded in 2021 as an equal joint venture with Deutsche Seereederei (DSR), DR Hospitality will now become an integral part of the DER Touristik Group.

This move reflects DER Touristik Group’s commitment and ambition in the German-speaking holiday hotel industry and the land-based travel market. Dr. Ingo Burmester, CEO Central Europe DER Touristik Group, highlighted the anticipation of increased popularity for holiday destinations accessible by train and car in the future. The acquisition aims to establish a solid foundation for further growth, with plans to explore additional opportunities in collaboration with Deutsche Seereederei.

The partnership is seen as advantageous by DSR Group, a medium-sized company, which perceives significant growth prospects in the land-based travel market through its collaboration with DER Touristik. Horst Rahe, Managing Partner of DSR, expressed confidence in the continued growth of the land-based travel market and the potential for securing premium locations through this partnership.

DR Hospitality, operating as DSR Hotel Holding, is actively engaged in hotel management in Germany, Austria, and, since 2023, Italy, with a workforce of over 1,800 people. The company manages a diverse portfolio of 22 hotels and resorts under various brands such as A-ROSA, aja, HENRI HOTELS, Hotel Louis C. Jacob, MIRA Hotels, and Hotel Neptun.

DER Touristik’s acquisition of a majority stake marks a strategic move in its growth plan, focusing on sustainability, individuality, and quality. Dr. Ingo Burmester emphasized the importance of quality standards in their hotel strategy, stating that tighter integration of DSR Hotel Holding into the hotel division allows for uniform application of these standards across the entire portfolio. This alignment also facilitates the introduction of innovations throughout the division and brings the hotels and brands of DSR Hotel Holding closer to DER Touristik’s extensive sales network.

As the travel and tour operator unit of the REWE Group, DER Touristik Group is a leading travel company in Europe. Since 2021, the hotel business has been a strategic growth field, consolidated under the DER Touristik Group Hotel Division. The portfolio encompasses 10 brands and over 100 hotels in 14 countries worldwide.
