Since the historic landing of American Airlines flight 341 at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport half a century ago, the airline has consistently poured resources into its operations at DFW. This dedication has transformed the airport into the airline’s largest hub globally and propelled it to the position of the second busiest airport in the world. American Airlines remains committed to fortifying its network, investing in long-term growth, and fostering innovation to keep DFW at the forefront of global airports.

Jim Moses, American’s Senior Vice President of DFW Hub Operations, expressed pride in the airline’s legacy and the enduring growth and investment over the past five decades. Recognizing DFW as the cornerstone of American’s global operation, Moses acknowledged the strong partnerships with airport authorities, the local community, and regional leaders in Dallas and Fort Worth.

Looking ahead, American Airlines continues to play a pivotal role in the Texan economy, contributing nearly $43 billion annually and employing 35,000 team members in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Serving 240 worldwide destinations from DFW, the airline is set to launch a record-setting summer schedule in 2024, offering more seats than ever before and introducing new routes to Barcelona, Spain; Tulum, Mexico; and Redmond, Oregon.

Underlining its commitment, American Airlines signed a 10-year Use and Lease Agreement in May 2023, accompanied by a pre-approved capital plan of nearly $5 billion. This substantial investment is earmarked for terminal expansions, adding 24 gates to accommodate long-term growth, and upgrading existing facilities to enhance the overall customer experience at DFW.

To mark the 50th anniversary, American team members gathered at DFW Airport on January 13, 2024, commemorating the inaugural flight in 1974. The celebration included the arrival of American Airlines flight 3589 from Little Rock, Arkansas, bringing together employees like George Zee, a Customer Service Agent with a 50-year career at American Airlines. George expressed pride in witnessing the airline’s growth and attributed his longstanding commitment to the company to the camaraderie among colleagues and the satisfaction of assisting customers daily.
