Austrian Airlines inaugurated its inaugural flight to Rovaniemi, marking a significant expansion of its winter flight schedule in the northern regions. Following the successful launch of the first flight to the Andalusian capital in October, the airline is now set to fly once a week to the enchanting Finnish town of Rovaniemi starting from December. In collaboration with a tour operator, Austrian Airlines will also extend its services to the winter sports haven of Kittilä.

Responding to the growing demand and heightened interest in winter travel, the airline has broadened its winter flight offerings, including destinations in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Starting in December, Vienna will be connected to Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, providing passengers direct access to the picturesque landscapes of northern Finland. CCO Michael Trestl highlights the opportunity for travelers to witness the Northern Lights, embark on husky tours, and explore the unique winter sports terrain.

Austrian Airlines’ introduction of flights to Rovaniemi has been met with enthusiasm at Finavia Lapland Airports. The newly established route offers passengers a seamless experience to discover the wonders of Finnish Lapland with a single flight. Santa Claus himself welcomed the fortunate passengers of the inaugural flight to Rovaniemi Airport, the official airport of Santa Claus. The renowned Levi ski resort is also easily accessible from Vienna, being just a flight away from Kittilä Airport.

Situated adjacent to the Arctic Circle, Lapland boasts a captivating winter landscape, guaranteed snow, and an extensive array of winter sports. Renowned as the “Gateway to the North,” Lapland is not only a haven for witnessing the Northern Lights but also home to the legendary Santa Claus. The inaugural flight from Vienna Airport to Rovaniemi aligns perfectly with the Advent season, treating passengers to Christmas surprises, including a unique flying Christmas market with cookies and punch onboard.

The festive spirit extends beyond the inaugural flight, with ongoing Christmas celebrations at Vienna Airport. Three days after the Rovaniemi launch, an Austrian Airlines Santa Claus will distribute “Servus” chocolate coins to passengers, ensuring that the holiday cheer continues to resonate throughout the airport.
