There has been a jump in terms of the number of domestic tourists coming to the state of Kerala. From January- June 2023, in a period of six months, as many as 1.06 crore tourists from India visited Kerala and its different tourist destinations in and around.
In 2022 comparatively, during the same time, the number was almost 88.95 lakhs which means that in 2023, the state witnessed a major rise in the number of travellers and it reached almost 20.1%. Before the pandemic, in 2019, around 88.64 tourist footfall was recorded in Kerala. Mr. Mohamed Riyas, Minister of
Tourism and Public Works, said that this is signal for Kerala surpassing the pre-covid footfall in domestic tourism.
Also, there has been a rise in international tourist numbers with more than 2.88 lakh tourists coming to the state of Kerala. It was an increase of 171.55 percent over 2022. Last year, the department of tourism in Kerala recorded a revenue of Rs 35,168.42 crore while the year before, it was Rs 12,285.42 crores respectively.
Between January and June, as per tourism department records, in Ernakulam district, the majority number of tourists visited as it reached 22.16 lakh people. Idukki holds the second place.
