There is immense travel chaos during the working week in Netherlands as the Public transport staff staged a 24-hour strike. This has brought all rail, tram, bus and ferry services to a halt.

The Amsterdam Schiphol airport instructed the airlines to cancel dozens of flights that included many to and from UK.

High congestion on the roads to and from the airport were expected. Flybe cancelled multiple services from Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester, Exeter and East Midlands to the Dutch airport.

Four easyJet flights linking Gatwick with Amsterdam have been grounded while the passengers were informed that the Amsterdam airport authorities asked the airlines to reduce the number of flights arriving and departing at Amsterdam Schipol airport.

To minimise the amount of passengers travelling to and from the airport this was done. The airline went on saying that according to the EU261 regulations , the customers will not be eligible for compensation due to the industrial action.

From London St Pancras to Rotterdam and Amsterdam all Eurostar services were cancelled for the day. The passengers were left with the option of travelling to Brussels,  opt for another day or get a full refund.

Due to the dispute over pension arrangements the public transport workers were stopping work and demanded retirement at the age of 66.

NS, the national train operator regrettably advised passengers not to travel by train. It said that as a result of industrial action across the entire public transport sector, there are very limited or no train services throughout the country today.

Where possible they will run trains but that might be be limited and unpredictable. There will be limited rail service running between between Schiphol airport and Amsterdam Central station from 5am to 9pm. This will be four times an hour. According to reports the Uber’s surge price has increased by 2.5 times
