Emirates has announced an order for eight additional Airbus A350‑900 aircraft at the 2025 Dubai Airshow 2025. The deal is worth US$ 3.4 billion at list price.
The announcement was greeted with optimism by tourism and aviation watchers. With more capable aircraft on the way, Emirates expects to offer more long‑haul connections, more comfort, and support Dubai’s ambition to be the world’s top travel hub.
The eight‑aircraft “top‑up” will bring Emirates’ total commitment for the A350‑900 model to 73 units (13 already delivered + 60 more on order).
These aircraft will be powered by the Rolls‑Royce Trent XWB‑84 engines.
Deliveries are expected to occur by 2031.

From a tourism perspective, this is big. More modern wide‐body jets mean:
For Emirates, the fleet upgrade is more than just “more planes”. It is part of a future‑proofing strategy for high‑capacity, efficient wide‑body operations. The airline already notes this block of A350s plus a large Boeing 777‑9 order bring their total “modern wide‑body aircraft” orderbook to 375 units.
Emirates emphasised that the A350‐900’s entry into service has given the carrier “welcome additional capacity”.
The airline also indicated that it has no immediate plans for the larger A350‑1000 model, citing reliability and durability concerns in some environments.
This cautious choice speaks to Emirates’ focus on operational stability — good news for tourists, because reliability matters.
If you’re a traveller heading to or via Dubai, here’s what this might mean:
By placing this order, Emirates is not only ramping up its fleet but signalling confidence in the future of Dubai as a travel hub. This kind of large‑scale investment helps Dubai maintain and enhance its position on the world tourism map.
For destinations wanting more visitors, a strong global airline like Emirates with modern jets makes incoming travel smoother, more comfortable, and more attractive.
As Dubai continues to cement its place as a global tourism and aviation hub, Emirates’ latest move—ordering 8 additional Airbus A350‑900s—is a clear statement of intent. These new aircraft will not only strengthen the airline’s global operations but also play a crucial role in making Dubai even more accessible to travelers worldwide. The airline’s strategic investment in modern, fuel-efficient aircraft ensures that Dubai remains a key destination for both business and leisure travelers.
This expanded fleet will likely lead to improved flight frequencies, expanded routes, and enhanced passenger experiences, all of which will be key to attracting more visitors to Dubai. Whether it’s new tourists exploring Dubai’s world-class attractions or business travelers enjoying more seamless connections, Emirates’ fleet renewal promises long-term benefits for the city’s tourism sector.
Moreover, the decision to opt for the A350‑900 over the larger A350‑1000 highlights Emirates’ focus on reliability and operational efficiency, ensuring that passengers can continue to expect the best in air travel. With a growing fleet and more advanced planes, the future looks bright for both the airline and the city itself. This investment in cutting-edge aviation technology not only benefits Emirates but also contributes to the flourishing of Dubai’s tourism industry, which is a driving force for the UAE’s economy.
As the city of Dubai continues to grow and evolve, these strategic decisions will keep Emirates and its home city at the forefront of global travel, enhancing the UAE’s position as a key player in the world tourism and aviation markets.
