Eco-tourism complex to be made near Ananthagiri

The Visakhapatnam division of the forest department and the National Thermal Power Corporation, Simhadri, is coming together to create an eco-tourism complex near Ananthagiri in AlluriSeetharamaRaju district.


Anant Shankar, the district forest officer, said that CSR funds would be made use of for this project. The planned project is for a period of three years costing Rs. 5.50 crores. For the first year, NTPC Simhadri will spend an amount of Rs. 2.50 crores. Additionally, government funds will also utilized for various works at the projected center.


The DFO said that the project is planned under Mission Conserve Eastern Ghats and is meant to explore the tourism prospective of the tranquil natural backdrop of the Tribal Agency area in Ananthagiri.


Besides, the project will help create employments for local tribal communities in the area. The proposed center will work on the ideal of community-based eco-tourism where local community would receive training for managing eco-tourism. The indigenous tribal community will be the guardian of the facility.


Incomes earned from the proposed center will be utilized only for the administration of the facility and the extra amount will be used for community growth and preservation works for the forest and wildlife.


The center will have eco-cottages, an interpretation center, non-timber forest produce (NTFP) handling center, a medicinal plants garden, an open butterfly garden, Orchidarium along with a watch tower.
