Edo state establishes tourism agency to diversify revenue

As part of efforts to diversify the state’s revenues away from oil dependence, Edo state government has established a tourism agency. The Edo state tourism agency was established following a proclamation through an executive order by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The acting managing director had served as the chairperson of the sub-committee of the Edo state steering committee in charge of infrastructure and corporate stakeholder engagement in the last two years.

In her capacity, she was able to secure in-principle pledges from significant corporations across critical sectors of the economy to work with the state government to ensure the agency’s successful and seamless launch.

The state administration has already conducted an in-depth research of Edo state’s tourism potential, and the state already has a tourism master plan designed by Verraki, a management consulting firm.

The agency’s acting managing director is an experienced lawyer with degrees from the University of Lagos and Queen Mary, University of London, who has spent significant time in project management in the Nigerian and international real estate sectors.

Edo, commonly known as Edo State, is a state located in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
