Travel And Tour World engaged in a conversation with Ekow Sampson, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations at the Ghana Tourism Authority at FITUR.

Travel And Tour World: How important is it for Ghana to present at an event like this?

Ekow Sampson: Oh, absolutely, FITUR is crucial for us. It’s like the heartbeat of fairs and business in the tourism sector, really. For Ghana to be there, it’s a big deal. It puts us right in the middle of the action, you know? All the major tour operators show up, and we get this fantastic opportunity to interact directly with them. This is our opportunity to really shine and highlight all that Ghana has to offer. So, yeah, being at FITUR, it’s a significant advantage for us in promoting our beautiful country.

Travel And Tour World: Here at FITUR, which new nationalities are you aiming for?

Ekow Sampson: Ghana’s got a whole variety of tourism products. Depending on where we’re aiming, especially on the eastern side, we’re really focusing on American tourists. They’re super into heritage tourism, you know? That’s where our forts and castles really shine. But that’s not all we have. Ghana is rich in natural tourism, eco-tourism, and for those who love a bit of thrill, there’s plenty of adventure too. So, for Europeans looking for a unique experience, Ghana’s got it all. It’s like we’ve got something special for everyone who comes visiting.

Travel And Tour World: What do you think about sustainability in a nation that is so rich in ecology and wildlife?

Ekow Sampson: It’s crucial, no doubt about it. We’ve got to think about both now and the future, right? Preserving what we’ve got is key because, let’s face it, if we don’t, we’re just going to end up destroying the very nature we love so much. Keeping the environment in safe hands is our responsibility. And then there’s awareness. Can’t skip that. It’s all about inclusivity and making sure no community feels left out. When we don’t involve everyone, some folks just get sidelined, and that’s not fair. So, yeah, raising awareness, especially about sustainability, is super important. We’ve got to bring everyone into the loop, make them aware, get them on board. It’s all about unity, working together to protect our world.

Travel And Tour World: Which Ghanaian regions do you think would be best to try and market to tourists?
Ekow Sampson:  In Ghana, we’ve got what we like to call the “triangle.” Think of Accra as the gateway, right? It’s where all the events happen. From there, you head over to Cape Coast to check out the forts, castles, and those stunning beaches. But that’s not all. Next up is Kumasi, where you really dive into Ghanaian culture, get that authentic flavor. But hey, we’re not just about culture and beaches. If you’re into scenic views, we’ve got those too. And, if you venture north, you’re in for a treat with the wildlife. Talking elephants and all sorts of animals. It’s a whole different world. Plus, on your way from Accra to Cape Coast, don’t miss out on Kakum National Park. It’s massive, and it’s a part of the journey that just ties everything together. So yeah, that’s the Ghana triangle for you.
