The China National Tourist Office in Los Angeles (CNTO) concludes its extensive promotional campaign for the recent global rebranding initiative, “Nihao China,” with an all-member luncheon at the 2023 United States Tour Operators Association Annual Conference & Marketplace (USTOA) held on Tuesday, December 5, at the JW Marriott Live in downtown Los Angeles. This five-day annual conference stands as the exclusive gathering in the United States, bringing together premier North American travel companies, tourism suppliers, and destinations worldwide.

Dawei Wu, CNTO Los Angeles director, emphasized the significance of the ‘Nihao China’ campaign as a universal welcome to all travelers. With the removal of pandemic travel restrictions and the gradual resumption of flights and frequencies between the United States and China by U.S. and Chinese carriers, the partnership with USTOA and its members is instrumental in positioning China as a top destination in 2024 and beyond.

Consul General Guo Shaochun of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles unveiled the ‘Nihao China’ logo, showcasing a stylized image of China’s iconic giant panda, to a sold-out audience of over 600 registered guests. “Nihao,” meaning welcome in Chinese, encapsulates the essence of the campaign. During the luncheon, CNTO presented a brief video showcasing China’s breathtaking scenery and distributed a glossy flyer highlighting the top reasons why China should be on every traveler’s list.

China, a destination like no other, seamlessly weaves together time-honored traditions with cutting-edge technology. The juxtaposition of soaring skyscrapers and ancient palaces, along with mythical creatures like deities and dragons, creates a unique tapestry. From the dance of lions warding off bad spirits to cormorants fishing and sand dunes singing, China’s allure lies in its diverse and captivating offerings.

As the world’s oldest continuous civilization, China boasts a rich history and culture spanning over 5,000 years, contributing numerous inventions and engineering feats to humanity. The luncheon featured a presentation on these contributions, ranging from the compass and papermaking to gunpowder and acupuncture. China’s influence extends even to everyday favorites like ice cream.

In the realm of gastronomy, China shines as a top favorite, captivating the palates of connoisseurs with its effortless elegance. The country’s cuisine offers a perfect balance of spicy Sichuan peppercorn, sweet plums, and a symphony of salty, sour, and bitter tastes. Notable dishes include Beijing’s Peking Duck, Shanghai’s soup dumplings, Chongqing’s hotpot, and Guangzhou’s fresh and flavorful dim sum.

The reasons to visit China are as diverse as the country itself, catering to foodies, tech enthusiasts, history buffs, and hopeless romantics alike. This land of legend and lore promises an enriching experience for every type of traveler.
