In a strategic move poised to redefine the landscape of international corporate payments, WEX, a leading global commerce platform known for streamlining the complexities of business operations, announced the induction of Emily Whalley into its team as the EMEA Sales Manager for International Corporate Payments.

Whalley’s nearly two decades of expertise in the travel technology sector, complemented by her recent foray into payment orchestration, positions her as a pivotal figure in WEX’s ongoing efforts to innovate and expand its corporate payments business across the EMEA region.

Whalley’s role, reporting directly to Steve Hawkins, the Regional Commercial Director EMEA at WEX, underscores the company’s intention to accelerate its growth in the corporate payments sector. Under Hawkins’ leadership, WEX aims to revolutionize the travel payment solutions it offers to online travel agents (OTAs), travel agencies, and travel companies. The goals are multifaceted: achieving cost savings on international payments, reducing the burden of accounting tasks, and fostering stronger relationships with suppliers.

Hawkins expressed confidence in Whalley’s appointment, noting her extensive sales leadership background within the travel industry and her proven track record of navigating complex market challenges. He highlighted her successful oversight of numerous transformative projects over the last eighteen months, emphasizing that her strategic insights are in perfect harmony with WEX’s mission to innovate travel payments. According to Hawkins, Whalley’s vision and expertise are instrumental in driving forward the company’s objectives to optimize efficiency and innovation within the industry.

Before her tenure at WEX, Whalley contributed significantly to various companies within the travel sector, including BR-DGE, Travelport, Amadeus, and Continental Airlines, where she held roles in sales and account management. Her enthusiasm about joining WEX is palpable. Whalley expressed her eagerness to apply her extensive experience toward fostering growth and introducing groundbreaking innovations in the travel payments sector, aiming to propel WEX to unprecedented levels of success in this dynamic field.

Whalley’s arrival at WEX coincides with that of Anna Nowak and Joanne Ruffley, both appointed as Relationship Managers for EMEA, International Corporate Payments. Nowak brings fifteen years of experience in corporate travel and relationship management from reputable companies such as American Express, BCD Travel, and Corporate Travel Management. Ruffley, transitioning from the Suresite Group, enriches the team with over two decades of experience in the travel and payment sectors, including roles in relationship management at Conferma Pay, Bien Venue Ltd., and Agiito.

This infusion of seasoned professionals into WEX’s team is not just a testament to the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence in travel payment solutions. It also signals a significant boost to the tourism industry. By enhancing payment efficiency and fostering stronger supplier relationships, WEX is set to facilitate a smoother, more cost-effective operational landscape for travel companies. This, in turn, is expected to stimulate growth across the tourism sector, from the introductory phase through to the conclusion, marking a transformative period for the industry at large.
