In the heart of the Dubai desert this week, a multitude of Emirates Group employees gathered to achieve a remarkable feat – setting a new Guinness World Records title for the Most nationalities in a yoga lesson. This distinctive event, aimed at inaugurating the new year with a focus on wellness, witnessed participants from a staggering 144 different nationalities embracing the challenge against the backdrop of a picturesque sunset.

This initiative not only highlighted the vibrant diversity within the Emirates Group but also showcased the global presence of the organization, boasting a workforce exceeding 110,000 employees. Spanning far beyond the borders of the UAE and the broader Middle East, participants from countries as remote as Chile, Peru, Mexico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Honduras, Mongolia, Tonga, and The Bahamas enthusiastically took part in the event.

Set in the expansive Al Lisaili Camp managed by Emirates Group brand Arabian Adventures, this record-setting attempt marked the first time such an event was brought to the desert, providing a distinctive experience for the participants.

The previous record, achieved in 2023 on the lawn of the United Nations headquarters in New York City, involved representatives from 135 different nationalities.

Emirates Group’s Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Oliver Grohmann, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Today we are celebrating the diversity of the Emirates Group. Dubai is a globally sought-after destination, and we take pride in representing a home-grown company that is genuinely multinational.”

The event brought together UAE nationals and Dubai-based expats, showcasing the diversity of roles within the Emirates Group, from cabin crew to airport operations, safari guides to travel experts. Grohmann emphasized that the record-breaking event underscores their commitment to the well-being of all Emirates Group employees, forming part of an ongoing initiative to foster a culture of health within the organization, with additional plans for fitness, health, and overall well-being in 2024.

The yoga lesson, which set the new record, was led by Emirates Group staff who were also trained yoga practitioners. Complementing the focus on wellness, a Senior Counselor from the Group’s Psychology Unit and a certified mindfulness teacher conducted a well-being session to encourage a healthy mindset for the new year. The event featured a DJ from the dnata Travel Group team providing chill-out music and a colleague playing a ‘tongue drum,’ commonly associated with meditation and healing.

In line with the Emirates Group’s commitment to sustainability, the yoga mats provided for attendees were crafted from biodegradable cork, and reusable water bottles were distributed to all staff, exemplifying their dedication to a zero-waste event.
