The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed imposing a significant civil penalty of $175,000 against Empyreal Jet of Houston. This penalty is based on allegations that the company operated a Raytheon Hawker 800 jet despite it being deemed unairworthy due to improper maintenance practices.

During an inspection conducted in September 2022, cracks were discovered in the jet’s rudder skin. Despite this concerning finding, Empyreal allegedly proceeded to reinstall the damaged rudder in October of the same year. Subsequently, the jet was purportedly operated on approximately 31 revenue flights. The FAA further alleges that Empyreal personnel falsely documented in a maintenance log that they had replaced the rudder, when in reality, they had only reinstalled the original damaged part.

Empyreal now faces a critical juncture in its dealings with the FAA. The company has been given a 30-day window following the receipt of the FAA’s enforcement letter to respond to the allegations. This response will likely play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the situation, potentially affecting Empyreal’s operations and reputation within the aviation industry. It underscores the importance of strict adherence to maintenance protocols and regulatory compliance in ensuring the safety and airworthiness of aircraft.
