Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africa’s largest airline group, has inaugurated an e-commerce logistics facility at Bole Addis Ababa Airport (ADD) within the Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics premises. This new facility, dedicated to e-commerce, mail, and courier logistics services, aims to address logistical challenges and establish Addis Ababa as the cross-border e-commerce logistics hub for Africa and beyond. Offering a comprehensive range of services such as consolidation, deconsolidation, sortation, repacking, and labeling, the facility also enables customers to easily track and trace their shipments from anywhere.
Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, highlighted the significance of this state-of-the-art e-commerce logistics facility, stating, “The inauguration of this cutting-edge e-commerce logistics facility is a significant breakthrough for Ethiopian Airlines Group and the entire African economy. We have implemented high-end technologies in the infrastructure that revolutionize the way goods are transported and delivered in the e-commerce industry in Africa.” Spanning 15,000 square meters and with an annual handling capacity of 150,000 tons, the facility represents a substantial investment of US$55 million. Tasew expressed satisfaction with the investment’s success, noting its role in setting the e-commerce industry in Africa on par with global standards.
Ethiopian Airlines, a member of the Star Alliance, operates a diverse fleet of aircraft, including Boeing 737s, 777s, 787s, Airbus A350-900s, and Bombardier Dash 8-400s, serving over 150 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents. The establishment of this e-commerce logistics facility reinforces Ethiopian Airlines’ position as a key player in the African aviation industry and underscores its commitment to advancing e-commerce services in Ethiopia and across the continent.
