Etihad Airways takes top honors: named global design airline of the year 2023

Etihad Airways has earned the prestigious title of ‘Design Airline of the Year 2023’ at the annual DesignAir Awards. The UAE’s national airline also clinched the ‘Most Improved Airline Brand’ accolade. These accolades come on the heels of a triumphant performance at the global edition of the World Travel Awards 2023 on December 1, where Etihad secured three wins for Best Customer Experience, Best Economy Class, and Best First Class Lounge.

DesignAir’s judges praised Etihad, noting its standout performance not only in the Middle East, where it was designated as the Design Airline of the Year for the region in 2023 but also as the overall Design Airline of the Year for 2023 on a global scale. The judges emphasized Etihad’s position as the premier global design airline this year, surpassing all other carriers.

The awards acknowledge Etihad’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the guest experience. This year, the airline introduced new menus and unveiled a sustainable Economy dining experience with a focus on design. Etihad also entered into a partnership with Armani/Casa to elevate the aesthetics of its acclaimed Business class.

Etihad’s dedication to improving the airport passenger experience was evident with the opening of Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport in November. The new terminal provides streamlined and biometric check-in processes, dedicated premium services, and a three-story Business and First class lounge facility.

In addition to being named ‘Most Improved Airline Brand,’ Etihad marked its 20th anniversary in November, unveiling growth plans outlined in its ‘Journey 2030’ vision, including an expanded network for 2024. The airline showcased impressive cabin interiors on its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, emphasizing enhanced comfort and privacy for passengers.

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, expressed pride in the airline’s achievements, attributing the success to the hard work of the Etihad family. He extended gratitude to the team members and loyal customers for their trust and support.

Jonny Clark, Founder of The DesignAir, commended Etihad’s consistent efforts to improve its product, image, and passenger experience both in the air and on the ground. The recognition as the most improved airline brand for the year reflects Etihad’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

Since 2012, DesignAir has been recognizing airlines for their investments in design, product, and brand, with winners selected by a panel of judges comprising industry experts and frequent fliers.
