In recent days, we have witnessed a wildfire in Greece and its surrounding territories, which has had a significant impact on the tourism business. However, when summer approaches, vacation bookings increase, but heatwaves in certain European locations cause people to rush to explore.  As summer approaches, Frankfurt, this attractive and ancient town on the banks of the Main River, comes alive with a wealth of activities and events that will thrill both inhabitants and visitors. There is something for everyone in this dynamic city throughout the summer months, from feasting in local cuisine to viewing exhibitions at renowned museums and participating in colourful festivals.

Discovering Frankfurt’s Charms:

Frankfurt is recognised for its futuristic skyline, which is dominated by high-rise buildings, yet it also has a rich past and a small-town charm. Visitors may enjoy stunning views of the city’s skyline while immersing themselves in its cultural riches while strolling along the Main River. The museums embankment is a cultural hub that houses nationally and internationally renowned museums and art galleries, providing art fans with a feast.

Main Festival – A Celebration for All Ages:

The Main Festival takes over the summer gardens along the Main River from August 4th to August 7th, delivering a colourful celebration with something for everyone. Visitors may enjoy live music, carnival attractions, children’s merry-go-rounds, gaming booths, shooting galleries, and a variety of delicious food vendors. The festival’s main attraction is the traditional “fisherman’s joust” on the Main River, in which participants compete to knock each other out of their boats using long wooden sticks. The celebration begins with a wine-tapping ceremony at Römerberg’s Fountain of Justice and ends with a spectacular firework show best watched from the riverbank.

Scenic River Cruises

Taking a river cruise around Frankfurt and its surrounds is a lovely way to view the city’s cityscape and surroundings. From April to September, travellers may enjoy 50- or 100-minute boats down the picturesque Main River, which offers stunning views of the city skyline and artistically crafted riverbanks. Whether on a day cruise or a clear night sail, the scenery is guaranteed to make an impact.

Indulge in Apple Wine and History in Old Sachsenhausen

Frankfurt celebrates its native beverage, apple wine, at the Apple Wine Festival, which runs from August 11th to August 28th. A specifically designed walking tour immerses visitors in the history of Frankfurt’s apple wine, its traditions in Old Sachsenhausen, and the manufacturing process. The trip takes guests through Old Sachsenhausen’s rustic apple wine taverns, where they may sample the famed local delicacy, Grüne Sosse (green sauce), amid old timber-frame cottages and tiny roads. Guests are invited to enjoy live music and entertainment while sipping on a glass of cool apple wine in the festival atmosphere.

Museums Embankment Festival

The Museums Embankment Festival takes place from the 25th to the 27th of August, bringing the city’s cultural scene to life. During this event, the Museumsufer, a complex of buildings holding over 30 museums and art galleries, produces a distinctive and dynamic cultural ambiance. The festival includes an exceptional programme from Frankfurt’s museums, enthralling stage shows, and unforgettable concerts at the Alte Oper. Visitors may also visit the cosy Bergerstraße or the bustling Sachsenhausen area.

This year’s Museums Embankment Festival features the Banksy show “The Art of Banksy – Without Limits.” This exhibition highlights Banksy’s trademark stencil technique in an entertaining presentation, with over 160 works by the acclaimed artist, including posters, pictures, lithographs, and sculptures. The event transforms Frankfurt into an artistic and cultural mecca, providing visitors with a new viewpoint on Europe’s financial capital.

Summer in Frankfurt is a season of joy, culture, and exploration. From the vibrant festivities of the Main Festival to the indulgence in apple wine and history in Old Sachsenhausen, and the cultural immersion of the Museums Embankment Festival, there is no shortage of activities to captivate travelers and residents alike. And for those seeking a unique and scenic experience, a leisurely river cruise along the Main River presents the city in an entirely new light. So, pack your bags, put on your walking shoes, and get ready to make the most of summer in this small and historic metropolis on the Main River. Frankfurt awaits with open arms and a plethora of summer delights.
