To ensure safety and provide travelers ample time for planning, Holland America Line has updated the itinerary for its 2025 Grand World Voyage on the Zuiderdam. The revised route omits the original passage through the Red Sea, instead enhancing the voyage with new destinations in Africa and Europe, including a stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This adjustment impacts the final 43 days of the 124-day journey, now featuring 49 distinct ports across 34 nations and territories on six continents, and will conclude as scheduled On May 9, 2025, the voyage will come to a close in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Post the initial segment to Cape Town, South Africa, the voyage introduces Walvis Bay, Namibia, and marks a return to Praia, Ilha de Santiago, Cape Verde after over three years. The Mediterranean segment includes familiar stops in Gibraltar, Alexandria, Athens, Rome, Naples, Lisbon, and Barcelona, along with new visits to Valletta, Tangier, Arrecife, Alicante, Cartagena, Tenerife, Olbia, Sardinia, and potentially Kusadasi, pending final confirmations.

“The safety of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance, and we have made the decision to avoid the Red Sea after close consultation with global security experts and government authorities,” said Beth Bodensteiner, chief commercial officer for Holland America Line. “Making this change now allows us to provide certainty for our guests in preparing for this 124-day trip around the world. The new itinerary was built with guest experience top of mind and maintains exciting European and African destinations with even more ports to explore in the Mediterranean.”

Starting cruise-only fares for this enriched global exploration begin at $24,999 per person, based on double occupancy, excluding taxes, fees, and port expenses. For more information and booking, travelers can visit hollandamerica.com.

“Guests joining us for our 2025 Grand World Voyage will be able to immerse themselves in exciting destinations across the globe. Not only will added calls to destinations like Kusadasi grant access to the wonders of Ephesus, but originally scheduled destinations such as Alexandria will allow guests to take in the sights of both the Pyramids of Giza and Sakkara, as well as give them a chance to answer the riddle of the Sphinx,” Bodensteiner said.

The 2025 Grand World Voyage promises an unparalleled experience, departing from Fort Lauderdale on January 4, 2025, and including highlights such as the Panama Canal transit, two nights in Callao with an opportunity to visit Machu Picchu, Easter Island, and scenic cruising in the Great Barrier Reef, among others. The journey will feature six overnight and late-night stops in iconic destinations, ensuring an immersive experience.

A special highlight will be the “Grand Meetup” in Barcelona on April 24, 2025, where the Zuiderdam will join the Volendam for a unique celebration, part of the 133-Day Grand Voyage: Pole to Pole.
