FAM Trips Reveal Northern Europe’s Best-Kept Secrets to Cruise Line Representatives

In October, two FAM Trips were organized by Cruise Baltic for cruise line representatives, showcasing destinations in Northern Europe suitable for both smaller and larger vessels. The cruise network encouraged the representatives to discover unique autumn and winter experiences in 12 destinations to promote the Baltic cruise product. Two FAM Trips, organized by Cruise Baltic in October, explored the secrets of various Northern European cruise destinations through the lens of seasonal experiences in the fall and winter. Participants included representatives from European, American, and British cruise lines.

Klaus Bondam, Director of Cruise Baltic said that with their new strategy, Cruise Baltic aims to challenge existing perceptions by inviting cruise line representatives and guests to uncover the secrets of Northern Europe. He said, “For many years, the Baltic Sea region has mostly been known for St. Petersburg. The city has been the main attraction for many cruise lines entering the Baltic Sea region, which is one reason why many destinations in our region are well kept secrets to this day.”

The FAM Trips are an essential tool for promoting destinations in the region to the cruise lines’ itinerary planners and shore excursion teams. During October 3-9, 2023, the first FAM Trip focused on smaller ports like Arendal, Malmö, Karlskrona, Kalmar, Helsingborg, and Nyborg. The second trip, held on October 12-17, highlighted larger ports including Oslo, Kristiansand, Kalundborg, Copenhagen, Roenne, and Stockholm. Between the trips, the Cruise Baltic network convened in Aarhus for three days of knowledge sharing.

“For me, the interest of a FAM Trip is to be able to see the destinations and meet the people involved, allowing me to get a visual and understand the ins and outs of the destinations visited. It also gives me the opportunity to have an idea of possible new destinations.” says Charlotte Krantz, Product Development – Shore Excursion at Ponant.

Cruise Baltic plans to continue using FAM Trips to showcase various destinations in the network. The upcoming FAM Trips are scheduled for February 29-March 5, 2024 (TBC), focusing on smaller ports and destinations, and October 17-22, 2024 (TBC), highlighting larger ports and destinations.
