Significant advancements are being made for public transport in Greater Manchester as Bee Network takes over Manchester’s rail services in December 2026. Transport for Greater Manchester is completing an overhaul to allow for greater ease, efficiency, and economic viability. In this first phase, Manchester’s public transport system is being integrated, first rail then in other phases, trams and buses in a transport system designed for the ease of commuters and the public.
The Bee Network is Greater Manchester’s integrated public transport system, combining buses, trams, and, soon, trains under one unified payment and travel system. By aligning all modes of transport, the initiative seeks to provide an efficient, user-friendly network, enabling people to move easily around the city region.

Starting on December 13, 2026, the Glossop and Stalybridge rail lines will be the first to join the Bee Network. This marks the beginning of the integration of Greater Manchester’s local rail services. A total of 17 stations will feature new signage and customer information points. Additionally, passengers will benefit from a contactless ‘tap in, tap out’ payment system that also introduces weekly fare caps for rail travel.
The rail integration will extend beyond the initial lines. By January 2028, eight rail lines, covering 64 stations, will be incorporated into the Bee Network, allowing for full integration of the city’s transport system. The final group of 32 stations will join by 2030, completing the full network of services.

In preparation for the rail network’s full integration, several changes will occur over the next 12 months. Some of the key initiatives include:
