From November 30 to December 1, 2023, Salamanca, Spain, will host the first International Seminar on Tourism Law. The event, organized by the University of Salamanca, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and Sorbonne University, aims to assess the two-year impact of the International Code for the Protection of Tourists (ICPT), a groundbreaking legal framework launched by the UNWTO during the pandemic.
The ICPT, which has been in effect for two years, is an important tool in restoring international travel confidence. It creates a safe environment for travelers while protecting their consumer rights, and it establishes standards for action in the tourism sector during emergencies that go beyond pandemics. Currently, 22 countries around the world have endorsed this Code, recognizing it as a critical tool for governments and public/private entities.
The seminar will bring together national and international experts from academia, tourism organizations around the world, and the United Nations to discuss the principles and recommendations for assisting international tourists. Discussions will also center on the safety of travelers who use digital tourism services, with case studies from early ICPT adopters such as Uruguay.
Salamanca’s role as host reflects the city’s dedication to advancing Tourism Law, a relatively new addition to international law. The goal of the seminar is to make it an annual event, fostering progress and discussion in this emerging legal field.
Don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the changing landscape of tourism law from global
experts at the UNWTO International Seminar in Salamanca. Stay informed, stay safe, and help
shape the future of international travel.
