Central Railway has announced additional train services between Mumbai and Goa ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 to handle the expected increase in passenger movement during the festive season. Four extra Ganpati Special train services will operate between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Madgaon, creating more travel opportunities for passengers heading towards the Konkan region and Goa.
The special services will run on September 11 and September 13, 2026, during the period when thousands of travellers are expected to journey for festival celebrations. The additional trains are designed to provide greater convenience, improve connectivity and reduce pressure on regular services operating along the busy Konkan route.
Extra Ganpati Special Trains To Strengthen Mumbai-Goa Festival Travel
The additional services will include two trains travelling from Mumbai to Madgaon and two return journeys from Madgaon to Mumbai. The move will provide passengers with more options while planning travel during one of the busiest festival periods in Maharashtra.
The Mumbai-bound service, train number 01007, will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus at 12:40 am on September 11 and September 13. It will reach Madgaon at 3:30 pm on the same day.
For the return journey, train number 01008 will depart from Madgaon at 4:30 pm on September 11 and September 13. The train will arrive at CSMT at 8:15 am the following morning.
The additional operations will improve access between Mumbai, the Konkan coastline and Goa, allowing passengers to travel more conveniently during the festive period.
Additional Stops Expand Access Across The Konkan Region
The Ganpati Special trains will serve several important stations located along the Konkan railway corridor. The route coverage will benefit passengers travelling to different towns, coastal destinations and communities across Maharashtra and Goa.
The trains will halt at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Pen, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Sawarda, Aravali Road, Sangameshwar Road, Ratnagiri, Adavali, Vilavade, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road, Nandgaon Road, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road, Thivim and Karmali.
These scheduled stops will improve accessibility for passengers travelling beyond major cities. The services will support festival travellers as well as those visiting destinations across the Konkan belt.
22-Coach Trains To Offer Multiple Travel Choices
Each special train will operate with a 22-coach configuration to provide a combination of reserved and general seating options.
The coach arrangement will include:
- 2 AC 3-Tier coaches
- 12 Sleeper Class coaches
- 6 General Second Class coaches
- 2 Second Seating-cum-Guard’s Brake Vans
The formation has been planned to accommodate different categories of passengers, including those looking for reserved accommodation and those preferring unreserved travel options.
The increased capacity will help meet higher demand expected during Ganesh Chaturthi when railway services on the Mumbai-Konkan route usually experience significant passenger movement.
Advance Booking Facility Available For Passengers
Reservations for train number 01007 will open from August 29, 2026. Passengers can reserve seats through Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and online railway booking platforms.
Travellers using general coaches can purchase tickets through the UTS system at standard fares. Digital ticket booking facilities will also be available through the RailOne application.
Passengers planning to travel during the festival period are encouraged to complete their bookings early to secure preferred travel options.
