Flight delays continue at Delhi’s Airport due to fog, fifth in a row

On Friday, dense fog enveloping Delhi led to multiple flight delays at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. This marks the fifth day in a row of disrupted flight operations due to poor visibility in the city. Additionally, train services to and from Delhi were impacted by the challenging weather conditions.

Around 22 trains heading to Delhi experienced delays due to the dense fog that has blanketed several parts of the country.

Northern Railways reported significant delays for several trains. The Khajaurao-Kurukshetra Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, Rani Kamlapati-New Delhi Bhopal Express, and Kamakhya-Delhi Junction were delayed by approximately 6 to 6.5 hours.

Other trains, including the Amritsar-Nanded Express, Rewa-Anand Vihar Express, Muzaffarpur-AnandVihar Express, Vasco-Nizamuddin Express, Amritsar-Mumbai Express, Jammutawi-Ajmer Pooja Express, and Manikpur-Nizamuddin Express, are also expected to arrive around 2 to 2.45 hours behind schedule.

Additionally, long-haul trains like the Saharsa-New Delhi Vaishali Express, Bhagalpur-Anandvihar Express, Rajendranagar-New Delhi Express, Banaras-New Delhi Express, Ambedkarnagar-Katra, Chennai-New Delhi Express, Ferozpur-Mumbai Express, Bikaner-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express, and Islampur-New Delhi Magadh Express faced delays.

Visibility Conditions in Delhi and Surrounding Areas At Delhi’s Palam airport, visibility improved from zero at 4:30 AM to 50 meters by 5 AM and further to 150 meters by 6:30 AM, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD also noted visibility as low as 50 meters in various regions, including Punjab, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Tripura, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and East Rajasthan. Moderate fog was observed in isolated areas of Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha on Friday morning.

Cold Wave in North India A cold wave swept across parts of North India, with minimum temperatures hovering between 3 and 6 degrees Celsius. However, on Friday morning, areas in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, northern Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar experienced a rise in minimum temperatures, which ranged between 7 and 10 degrees Celsius.
