Maryam Jalali Dehkordi will hopefully be supervising the handicraft sector of the ancient country of Iran; formerly she worked as the director of the Niavaran Cultural-Historical Complex of Iran. It comprises numerous attractive and famous buildings, monuments and museums built in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Jalali Dehkordi will be replacing Pouya Mahmoudian. Pouya took the helm in April 2018. Besides, as senior advisor, Zarghami selected Mahmoudian on crafts.

Iran ranks first internationally with 14 entries in regard to the number of cities and villages that are registered by the World Crafts Council. China has seven entries with Chile four and India three. Shiraz has been named a “world city of [diverse] handicrafts”, followed by Malayer, the global hub in terms of carved-wood furniture and wood carving and Zanjan has grabbed the label of a “world city of filigree”.

To arrange the 39th General Assembly of the World Crafts Council-Asia Pacific Region, Shiraz has been selected. It would occur in the month of May 2023. Shiraz has a leading name in handicrafts and their pioneers. Some of these pioneers can be found who are 70 years and are still working at their workshops. The records of the occupation of about 100 pioneers have been collected and are commended by the custodians of the WCC General Office every year.

After compiling the available information from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, it shows that the value of the handicrafts exports of Iran stood at $120 million.
