FOUR SEASONS RESORT PENINSULA PAPAGAYO

As we approach International Women’s Day on March 8, the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo shines a light on the extraordinary narrative of Pastry Chef Laura Bolomo from Argentina. Her tale is marked by relentless ambition, fervor, and the quest for dreams.

The unlikely pairing of pastry artistry and the exhilaration of surfing finds common ground in Laura Bolomo’s life, both symbolizing the empowerment of women. Laura applies the same precision and commitment from her culinary pursuits to surfing in Guanacaste’s waves, showcasing the diverse capabilities of women. Her path demonstrates the empowering philosophy of chasing one’s dreams. Embracing the Pura Vida way of life, Laura has struck a perfect harmony between her culinary passion and the adventurous coastal lifestyle Costa Rica presents.

“When I got to Costa Rica, I made myself a promise, to become a surfer. Later that year, I’d proudly call myself a surfer. While I’m still learning, being in the water on my board makes me feel connected to nature. Each wave I catch fills me with happiness and adrenaline, brightening my days,” says Bolomo.

The Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo extends an invitation to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, recognizing the achievements and endeavors of women like Chef Laura Bolomo, whose inspirations and breakthroughs continue to motivate.

General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo Ian-Robert Ciappara expresses admiration for Laura’s achievements: “We are thrilled to celebrate International Women’s Day by highlighting the incredible journey of Chef Laura Bolomo. Her story is a source of inspiration for all, showcasing the strength, resilience, and creativity that women bring to every aspect of their lives.”

Surf Like a Girl, a Distinguished Event

The resort team is excited to partner with SurfX for a significant panel discussion and fundraising event titled “Costa Rican National Champions Discuss Progression in Women’s Professional Surfing.”

Scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 4:00 pm at the Surf Patio, this event offers an in-depth look at the advancements in women’s professional surfing. Moderated by Natalia Vindas, the founder of Costa Rica’s Adaptive Surf Association, the panel will include national champions Lia Diaz and Lisbeth “Liz” Vindas discussing the hurdles and prospects for female surfers, accompanied by a raffle to support local women surfers in competitions. Expect a congenial setting with refreshments, socializing, and snacks, brought together by Women of Papagayo, Four Seasons Resort, and SurfX. RSVP to be part of this collective effort.

Introducing the Esteemed Guests

Lisbeth “Liz” Vindas: A trailblazer with over two decades of professional surfing experience, Liz Vindas is a cornerstone of the Costa Rican surfing community. As the first woman to compete in all world championships since 1996, she serves as an ambassador for women’s surfing in Costa Rica. With 11 national titles and four Central American championships, Liz’s unique style merges tradition with innovation. Surfing for Liz goes beyond competition; it’s a lifelong passion and a source of happiness, influencing the global surfing community in over 25 countries.

Lia Diaz: At 19, Lia Diaz is a Costa Rican surfing prodigy, introduced to the sport in her early years. Crowned national champion in her category at merely 13, she made a striking comeback to competitive surfing in 2022 after spending five years as a free surfer. Her recent achievements include victories at national competitions and representing Costa Rica at the ISA World Junior Surfing Games in El Salvador, culminating in a bronze medal win at the 2023 Pan American Games in Panama.

Natalia Vindas: Following a transformative car accident in 2008, Natalia Vindas transitioned to life in a wheelchair. Opting for resilience, she reinvented herself by earning a postgraduate degree in Accessibility and becoming a certified Accessibility Professional. Natalia founded the Adaptive Surfing Association of Costa Rica, advocating for inclusivity and success in adaptive surfing. Through sharing her story, Natalia aims to encourage others to confront challenges with courage and innovation.

The Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica, along with SurfX, welcomes guests, the local community, and media to participate in these celebrations and support the accomplishments of women.
