Fourteen dynamic Tourism Committees have recently achieved accreditation, marking a significant leap forward in fostering sustainable tourism development across The Islands of Tahiti. Aligned with the implementation of the sustainable tourism strategy, Fāriira’a Manihini 2027 (FM27), the nation has instituted measures to fortify its collaboration with local tourism stakeholders, including the tourism committees.

The Accredited Champions are: Nuku Hiva, Rangiroa, Fakarava, Moorea, Huahine, Ua Pou, Tubuai, Rurutu, Manihi, Taiarapu Ouest, Tautira, Teva I Uta, Tiarei, Faa’a.

More than mere bureaucratic entities, the Tourism Committees serve as the storytellers, custodians of local treasures, and orchestrators of unforgettable island experiences. These committees form associations that unite and assist tourism contributors in municipalities or on islands, disseminating tourist information within their jurisdictions, promoting local professionals, must-visit places, and noteworthy events. Some committees, in certain islands, extend their efforts to organizing events and enlivening the island’s tourist life, managing an average of 800 cruise ship welcomes annually. Additionally, they play a crucial role in raising awareness among the local population about welcoming visitors and the responsible development of tourism.

The consultative accreditation commission convened on Wednesday, 29th November, in Papeete, The Islands of Tahiti.

Tahiti Tourisme teams have collaborated closely with these committees, guiding them through the certification process and highlighting their pivotal role in shaping a collective future for tourism. It transcends paperwork; it entails forging genuine partnerships and nurturing a sustainable, inclusive tourism landscape.

By the conclusion of 2023, Tahiti Tourisme aspires to see at least 20 out of the 30 tourism committees accredited, representing the diverse communities of the Island of Tahiti’s remote archipelagos and islands.
