United Airlines starts a seasonal, direct flight from Washington Dulles to Malpensa starting May 29, 2027, pending government approval. This flight will become the sole air bridge between Milan and the Washington D.C. metro area, enabling passengers to travel between northern Italy and the U.S. capital area more direct and quickly.

The carrier also links Rome with Denver and San Francisco through seasonal services and operates flights from Naples, Venice, Palermo and Bari to Newark/New York.

The airline will add further Italian connections in 2027 with new flights from Olbia and Catania to Newark/New York. Following these expansions, United expects to operate up to 16 daily nonstop flights between Italy and the United States, serving more Italian cities directly than any other airline.

The new Milan–Washington route will strengthen United’s position as a leading carrier connecting Italy with North America.

New Direct Flight Restores Milan’s Link With US Capital Region

The launch of the new route will restore a direct aviation connection between Milan and Washington D.C. after a gap of more than two decades. The service will reconnect Italy’s major business and cultural hub with one of the most important political and economic centres in the United States.

Washington Dulles will also provide passengers with convenient onward connections throughout the Americas. Through United’s hub network, travellers arriving from Milan will gain access to more than 110 destinations across the Americas, including almost 90 locations within the United States.

United Airlines will operate the new Milan–Washington Dulles service using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, offering passengers multiple cabin options designed for long-haul comfort.

The aircraft will feature 203 seats, including 30 United Polaris business class seats, 24 United Premium Plus seats and 149 economy seats. The economy cabin will include 32 Economy Plus seats with additional legroom and extra personal space.

United Polaris business class will provide travellers with a premium international experience featuring fully flat-bed seats, direct aisle access, upgraded dining and enhanced onboard amenities. Passengers will also receive premium products from brands including Perricone MD and Saks Fifth Avenue.

United Premium Plus will offer a larger seat, increased recline, additional legroom and upgraded comfort features compared with standard economy seating. The cabin will also include enhanced bedding and amenity products.

Economy Plus passengers will benefit from extra space and a convenient location near the front of the economy cabin, helping passengers exit the aircraft more quickly after landing. United Economy passengers will receive complimentary meals, drinks, entertainment and access to personal entertainment systems on most aircraft.
